What’s the only thing more difficult than having to photograph a toddler? Having to photograph a running toddler! Any time I have a session scheduled with a walking one year old, I always come prepared with my running shoes (because in reality, “walking” means “sprinting” when it comes to babies. They just take off!) One strategy I use quite often is the art of distraction. Give them a toy or something new and shiny they’ve never seen before. Enter – my antique chair. You’ll see it a lot in my 1 year old sessions because not only is it a super cute prop, it also helps me capture those oh so fleeting moments where baby is sitting still and looking at you. Sometimes it only gets me about 30 seconds of stillness, so I have to work fast, but the result is totally worth it!

Milestone sessions are such a fun way to document your baby’s budding personality! Typically scheduled between 6 months and 12 months of age, these sessions can take place outdoors at a location of your choosing or in the studio.  There’s no better way to celebrate your baby’s first smile, when they learned to sit up or crawl, or their first birthday than with a special portrait session. Family members can be included in these sessions as well. Parents are often hidden behind the camera, but I always encourage moms and dads to take advantage of this opportunity and be in photos with their child.
